US Vice President JD Vance has weighed in on the ongoing investigation into the H-1B work visa program, stating that its original purpose was to legally bring skilled foreign professionals to work in the United States. However, he said, several major companies and foreign actors are now exploiting the system in ways that harm American workers.
According to media reports, the H-1B visa program, used to recruit skilled foreign professionals in the US, has become part of the Trump administration’s largest fraud investigation to date. Vance issued a warning to those accused of misusing the visa system at the expense of American jobs.
Speaking during a visit to the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 128th Air Refueling Wing base in Milwaukee, Vance said the US Department of Labor has already issued subpoenas to numerous individuals and organizations, and investigations into alleged misuse of the visa program by foreign fraudsters are underway.
“We have the H-1B visa program, and this shows just how broadly the fraud task force is operating. We are not only protecting taxpayer money but also ensuring that fraudsters cannot exploit visa programs,” he said.
Vance added that the program was originally meant to bring in exceptional tech experts, distinguished scientists, or top doctors to work legally in the US. Over time, however, that purpose has been diverted, with many large companies and foreign fraud networks now using it to suppress wages for American workers.
