LAHORE: The Punjab Housing Department has announced that the Punjab Horticulture Authority’s (PHA) province-wide green mission is progressing rapidly as part of efforts to combat smog and improve the urban environment.
According to the department’s spokesperson, the tree washing campaign is being implemented regularly across 10 major districts of Punjab, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Sialkot.
The spokesperson noted that the Directorate General of the PHA has intensified its smog-control measures. Acting on the special directives of Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, the authority has accelerated tree washing and other environmental improvement initiatives in urban areas.
Highlighting the significance of the campaign, the spokesperson said that tree washing promotes healthy growth, expanded canopy, and improved air-purifying capacity of trees. He added that trees and plants play an essential role in reducing both environmental and visual pollution.
The PHA, he said, is committed to making Punjab smog-free, ensuring maximum and efficient use of available resources. Implementing the environment-friendly vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz remains one of the institution’s top priorities.
