LAHORE — The Punjab Housing Department has initiated a comprehensive plan to digitize the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) across Lahore, aiming to modernize service delivery and improve system efficiency, a departmental spokesperson said on Friday.
The announcement followed a high-level meeting chaired by Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, where DG WASA Punjab Tayyab Fareed and MD WASA Lahore Ghufran Ahmed briefed officials on the progress and scope of the digitization project.
According to the spokesperson, a specialized team comprising experts in IT, engineering, finance, and GIS has already begun work to overhaul WASA’s operational framework. The modernization push includes expanding the network of WASA agencies across Punjab and introducing a regular performance evaluation system for all units.
All WASA agencies in the province will be linked to the Punjab WASA Central Control Room, enabling coordinated monitoring and management.
A modern automated complaint-management system is also being implemented to ensure quick, transparent, and foolproof resolution of consumer grievances. Additionally, the installation of the SCADA system at all pumping stations will allow real-time monitoring of operations.
The department is also developing a vehicle and machinery tracking system, alongside adopting office automation and paperless technologies to enhance transparency and institutional performance.
Training programs for officers and staff will accompany the rollout to ensure smooth implementation of the digitized system.
The spokesperson added that, in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directives, all available resources are being utilized to fast-track digitization efforts and deliver faster, more efficient municipal services to citizens.
