LAHORE: Punjab Governor and Chancellor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Tuesday underlined the crucial role of women and education in Pakistan’s development while addressing the 48th convocation of the University of Home Economics (UHE).
He said that as Chancellor, he is committed to improving the quality of education and research in universities across Punjab. The Governor praised the growing participation of women in all fields, noting that they are working shoulder to shoulder with men in shaping Pakistan’s future.
Highlighting the contributions of women throughout history, he said that figures such as Hazrat Khadija (RA), Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa (RA), and Hazrat Fatima Zahra (RA) serve as powerful role models for Muslim women. He also recalled Fatima Jinnah’s vital role during the Pakistan Movement and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s long struggle for democracy.
He added that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is working tirelessly for the welfare and development of Punjab.
Governor Saleem Haider Khan expressed hope that by the end of his tenure, universities in Punjab would see “visible improvements” due to ongoing reforms.
He lauded UHE Vice Chancellor Zeb-ul-Nisa Hussain for her leadership, noting that the university has progressed significantly under her guidance. He said new programs in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence have been launched, and expressed hope that the university will soon receive approval to begin PhD classes next year.
During the convocation, 27 female students received gold medals, and degrees were awarded to 1,100 graduates of BS Honours and MPhil programs. The Governor, along with the Vice Chancellor, distributed medals and degrees among the students.
