United Transport Action Committee calls for wheel-jam strike in Punjab from December 8
LAHORE: The decision to increase traffic fines in Punjab has sparked widespread anger among transporters, prompting them to announce a nationwide wheel-jam strike.
According to the United Transport Action Committee, a 25-point charter of demands has already been presented to the government, but their objections to the hike in fines have not yet been addressed.
Transporters say that the practice of “targeted challans” by the traffic police must end, and the decision to increase fines should be withdrawn immediately.
The committee has warned that if the government fails to meet their demands, public and goods transport will be completely suspended across Punjab from December 8, and from December 10 nationwide.
