Islamabad: Pakistan is expected to announce a significant reduction in petroleum product prices, offering relief to consumers amid ongoing economic pressures. Official sources indicate that fuel prices could be lowered by up to Rs11 per litre, with a final decision due on December 15.
According to local media reports, preliminary calculations prepared by the relevant authorities suggest that petrol prices may decline by Rs0.36 per litre, while high-speed diesel could see a sharp reduction of Rs11.85 per litre. Kerosene oil prices are expected to fall by Rs11.70 per litre, and light diesel oil by Rs10.01 per litre.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is scheduled to forward its price summary to the federal government on December 15. Following approval by the prime minister, the Petroleum Division will issue an official notification announcing the revised prices.
If the proposed cuts are approved, the new petrol price would stand at Rs263.09 per litre, while high-speed diesel would be reduced to Rs270.80 per litre. Kerosene oil would be priced at Rs181.16 per litre, and light diesel oil at Rs153.76 per litre.
The anticipated reduction comes amid fluctuations in global oil prices and exchange rate trends, and is expected to provide short-term relief to consumers and key sectors reliant on fuel.
