LAHORE — Acting on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team has intensified surprise inspections of public hospitals across the province, leading to disciplinary action against hospital administrations over administrative shortcomings.
According to officials, the inspection team conducted unannounced visits to four hospitals in a single day, including District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Jhelum and Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospitals in Sohawa, Gujar Khan, and Kharian. The inspections were carried out by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Shoaib Mirza, who conducted late-night visits to assess healthcare facilities, staff presence, and patient care.
During the inspection at DHQ Hospital Jhelum, the team identified serious mismanagement, including non-functional X-ray machines and the unavailability of X-ray films. Patients also raised multiple complaints regarding inadequate facilities and services. Following these findings, the Medical Superintendent (MS) of DHQ Hospital Jhelum was removed from his post on the recommendation of the CM Inspection Team.
At THQ Hospital Sohawa, the inspection team expressed dissatisfaction with the existing administrative arrangements. The Medical Superintendent and other responsible officials were issued strict warnings and directed to immediately improve hospital management and service delivery.
In contrast, the inspection team expressed satisfaction with the administrative performance at THQ Hospitals Gujar Khan and Kharian, noting comparatively better facilities, management, and patient services.
The Punjab government reiterated that regular and surprise monitoring of public hospitals will continue to ensure accountability, improved healthcare delivery, and timely relief for patients across the province.
