LAHORE, Jan 8: Punjab’s Director General Food, Amjad Hafeez, said on Thursday that the supply of flour across the province remains sufficient and stable, with market equilibrium being maintained through controlled releases and strict monitoring by the provincial government.
He said that on January 7, 2026, flour mills across Punjab milled a total of 33,000 metric tons of wheat, of which approximately 15,000 metric tons were government-owned wheat released at controlled rates. On the same day, around two million flour bags were supplied to the market—well above the daily average—indicating no shortage of flour, he added.
According to the DG Food, 950,000 flour bags were sold in the market at officially notified prices, which he said were more than sufficient to meet consumer demand. Flour is currently available at government-set rates of Rs 905 for a 10-kg bag and Rs 1,810 for a 20-kg bag.
Amjad Hafeez said field teams are carrying out continuous market inspections to ensure compliance with official prices, while price control magistrates take immediate action on reports of overcharging. He emphasized that the provincial government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against hoarding, profiteering, rumors, and speculative practices.
Referring to the upcoming month of Ramadan, he said the flour supply chain has been further strengthened in anticipation of increased demand. Preparations have been finalized to boost wheat grinding and flour distribution during the holy month. He assured that uninterrupted flour supplies will be ensured at official rates throughout Ramadan, with all administrative and field resources remaining fully mobilized.
