ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Asad Qaiser has stated that Mahmood Khan Achakzai continues to hold the mandate for conducting negotiations on behalf of the opposition, while calling for a new charter to open doors for meaningful dialogue in the country.
Speaking to media, the former National Assembly Speaker emphasized the need for a fresh political framework that could facilitate constructive engagement between political parties. “The country needs a new charter that can open the door for dialogue,” Qaiser said.
When asked about PTI’s potential return to parliamentary standing committees, Qaiser clarified that no discussion has taken place within the party on this matter yet. “There has been no discussion in our party regarding a return to standing committees,” he stated.
The comments come amid ongoing political tensions and attempts at dialogue between the government and opposition parties. Achakzai, the head of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), has been acting as a bridge between various political forces in recent months.
PTI has maintained a confrontational stance with the government since the party’s founder Imran Khan was imprisoned, though periodic attempts at negotiations have been made through intermediaries.
