PARIS (News Agencies) A protest was held in Paris on Saturday over the death of a Mauritanian migrant activist in custody.
A video of the forced arrest of 35-year-old El Hassan Diarra on January 14 went viral on social media. Following calls from groups opposing police violence, approximately one thousand people protested in the French capital.
Protesters demanded justice for Diarra, who died after being taken into forced custody. Diarra’s family members also participated in the silent protest held under police supervision.
Demonstrators held banners reading “Justice for El Hassan Diarra” and “No Justice, No Peace.” Human rights organizations have demanded an independent investigation into the incident and raised their voices against police brutality.
