Lahore: The Emergency Services Department (ESD) reported responding to 1,262 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all 37 districts of Punjab in the past 24 hours, resulting in 15 fatalities and 1,449 injuries.
Of those injured, 599 individuals with serious injuries were transported to hospitals, while 850 victims with minor injuries were treated at the scene by Rescue Medical Teams, helping to reduce the burden on hospitals.
The majority of crashes (74%) involved motorbikes, highlighting the need for strict enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline to curb the rising number of RTCs.
The data also shows that among the victims were 815 drivers, 57 underage drivers, 192 pedestrians, and 457 passengers. Lahore recorded the highest number of crashes with 235 RTCs affecting 278 people, followed by Faisalabad with 86 crashes and 105 victims, and Multan with 82 crashes and 92 victims.
The gender and age distribution of the victims included 1,182 males and 282 females, with 243 under the age of 18, 804 between 18 and 40 years, and 417 above 40 years of age.
Vehicles involved in the accidents included 1,334 motorbikes, 91 auto-rickshaws, 178 motorcars, 29 vans, 10 passenger buses, 38 trucks, and 116 other types of vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
