Lahore: Director General Food Punjab, Amjad Hafeez, has said that under the public-friendly policy of Chief Minister Punjab, the uninterrupted supply of flour and price stability are being ensured across the province. Wheat is being issued to flour mills at a controlled rate of Rs 3,000 per 40 kg to maintain steady availability of flour.
He added that the Punjab government is providing 100 percent of the province’s daily flour requirement to flour mills in the form of wheat. Currently, 20,000 metric tons of subsidised wheat are being released daily to 670 flour mills across the province.
Hafeez said that supplying wheat at subsidised rates has significantly improved the supply chain, ensuring the availability of flour in all districts of Punjab. On the previous day alone, flour mills recorded 34,000 metric tons of wheat grinding, and 1.4 million flour bags were supplied to the market.
The notified retail prices remain Rs 905 for a 10-kg bag of flour and Rs 1,810 for a 20-kg bag. Hafeez said that the continuous release of 20,000 metric tons of wheat daily has eliminated any risk of flour shortages in the province. In cases of overcharging, price control magistrates are taking immediate and strict action.
He also highlighted the active role of the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department in conducting operations against hoarders, profiteers, and those spreading rumors. All administrative and field resources are being mobilized to ensure uninterrupted flour availability across Punjab.
Hafeez further announced that the Punjab government will purchase 3 million metric tons of wheat through the private sector at Rs 3,500 per 40 kg, with pre-qualification applications due by February 12, 2026.
Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the DG said the flour supply chain has been further strengthened, with arrangements finalized to increase grinding and distribution to meet the expected rise in demand during the month.
