LAHORE, Pakistan: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bokhari, has strongly condemned remarks made by a political activist associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) targeting Lahore. She described Lahore as a peaceful, culturally rich city and said attempts to insult it would not be tolerated.
Speaking to the media, Bokhari criticized those who, she said, had previously staged political gatherings and demonstrations at locations such as Liberty Chowk and Minar-e-Pakistan, and accused them of lacking moral authority to comment on the city’s progress. She referenced past Basant celebrations, noting that public festivities were conducted without controversy, questioning why similar scrutiny was not applied then.
Bokhari emphasized that the citizens of Lahore and Punjab have rejected “politics of chaos,” favoring cultural celebrations and peace over disorder. She urged political opponents to focus on their own governance records rather than targeting Punjab’s achievements.
The minister further stated that anti-state narratives and disruptive political movements have failed, and that Pakistan is progressing steadily, leaving no room for turmoil or unrest.
