Lahore, Pakistan – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a crucial meeting to discuss measures for maintaining Pakistan’s economic stability in the face of recent international tensions, as announced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Media Wing.
During the session, the Prime Minister received a detailed briefing on the emerging global tensions and their potential economic repercussions. Officials highlighted that the current regional situation could impact Pakistan’s economy, particularly in terms of energy supplies and fluctuations in global market prices. In response, the government is implementing preemptive actions to mitigate these effects.
PM Sharif emphasized the necessity of timely interventions to ensure national economic stability amid the ongoing international developments. He assured that the government is closely monitoring the situation and will make all necessary decisions to safeguard the economy. The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to addressing the challenges while fully protecting public interests and guaranteeing economic resilience.
He directed the federal cabinet, elected representatives at federal and provincial levels, and senior government officials to play their full role in providing relief to the public and ensuring efficient utilization of resources. PM Sharif stressed that all government employees and ministers must adopt simplicity and austerity measures.
Acknowledging the current difficult times, the Prime Minister called for the prudent use of national resources. He promised that once this challenging phase passes and the economy strengthens further, the government will provide maximum relief to the people.
The meeting clarified that austerity, simplicity, and savings directives would not apply to the industrial and agricultural sectors to prevent any adverse effects on national production, exports, and food security.
PM Sharif underscored that the burden of savings and austerity should be borne fairly by all, with particular emphasis on the privileged and elite classes setting an example by making necessary adjustments.
Several proposals and recommendations based on austerity and simplicity were presented and reviewed in detail to bolster economic stability. Officials informed the meeting that a final action plan on austerity and savings will be formally announced tomorrow.
The briefing also confirmed that Pakistan has adequate reserves of diesel, petrol, and other petroleum products, with contingency plans in place for any emergencies. Emphasis was placed on wise energy management and cautious fuel usage.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Information Technology will facilitate a system for continuous monitoring of supply and demand to ensure resource savings and energy efficiency, enabling relevant institutions to make timely decisions.
