A Minneapolis-based talent agency is leading a campaign to challenge outdated stereotypes about accountants, culminating in a Guinness World Records attempt for the“longest line of calculators” on Sept. 24, 2025, at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
With the accounting profession seeing drops in college enrollment in recent years, Scouts Talent said the goal behind the world record attempt is to reenergize interest by spotlighting accounting as the strategic engine behind every successful business.

The talent agency says it supports clients with on-demand accounting and finance talent for interim and fractional roles, and it’s working to reframe how the accounting profession is perceived and to “helping accounting professionals shine.”
“Accounting is the language of business. This event symbolizes its true power,” Scouts Talent CEO Gwen Martin said in a statement. “Let’s retire the ‘number-cruncher’ image and showcase accounting as a dynamic career offering impact and opportunity.”
“As close partners to finance teams across the economy, we hear firsthand how the accountant shortage is impacting productivity,” added Katie Simpson, Midwest executive for the Institutional Client Group of U.S. Bank, one of the event’s sponsors. “This is a creative initiative that brings visibility to a profession that’s essential to our clients’ success.”
The following is some information about the event:
- Break a world record: 1,000 calculatorsplaced in a continuous line to set a world record. Calculators will be provided. The event will be adjudicated by an official fromGuinness World Records.
- Admission: Free, but registration is required.
- Those needed to break the record: Accounting and finance professionals, accounting students, CEOs, CFOs, and industry supporters.
- When: The event will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 24, 2025, on center court of the Target Center in Minneapolis.
- Endorsements: Twin Cities chapter of Financial Executives International, Association of Corporate Growth Minnesota, and the Minnesota Society of CPAs.
- Sponsors: U.S. Bank, Forvis Mazars, Savills, Redpath, Lakeside HR, Klok, All in One Accounting, and Blue Team Alpha.
- Networking:College students will have exposure to top CPA firms and corporations. Accounting professionals will connect with colleagues and partners in the field. And employers will have recruiting opportunities with college students and other accounting professionals.
- Official world-record calculators:Following the record attempt, participants can take home a calculator as a memento of this record-setting evening. Any remaining calculators will be donated to local high schools.
