US President Donald Trump declared on Saturday that America has already “won” its confrontation with Iran, casting doubt on the significance of ongoing diplomatic negotiations. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of sensitive talks in Islamabad, Trump said the outcome of the negotiations no longer matters much to him, asserting that Washington has already proven its dominance on the battlefield.
“Deal or no deal, America will not back down from its position,” Trump said in characteristically blunt remarks. He claimed that US military strikes have neutralised Iran’s top leadership and severely degraded its naval, aerial, and defence capabilities, rendering the country no longer a significant threat.
The president reiterated that his primary objective remains preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, warning he would go to any lengths to achieve that goal. On the strategic Strait of Hormuz, Trump confirmed that US forces have launched a mine-clearance operation using advanced equipment and expressed hope that the critical waterway would soon reopen to global trade.
Trump also renewed his warning to China, cautioning Beijing that supplying weapons to Iran would carry severe consequences. Analysts say the remarks appear designed to maintain maximum pressure on Tehran while diplomats continue their delicate work in Islamabad.
