Lahore: The Department of Urology at Mayo Hospital Lahore has formally launched state-of-the-art laparoscopic (camera-assisted) surgery, marking a significant advancement in patient care and surgical treatment in the public sector.
With the introduction of this modern technique, complex kidney and bladder procedures can now be performed without large incisions, ensuring minimal pain, faster recovery, and significantly reduced hospital stay for patients.
Chairman Department of Urology, Professor Dr. Fawad Nasrullah, stated that the provision of a modern laparoscopic tower and advanced medical system was made possible through the special interest and continuous support of Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University, Professor Dr. Ayaz Mahmood, and CEO Mayo Hospital, Professor Dr. Shoaib Nabi. Due to this support, Mayo Hospital is now equipped with urological facilities meeting international standards.
The expert surgical team working under Professor Dr. Fawad Nasrullah includes Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Waqas, Dr. Muhammad Umar, Registrar Dr. Mansoor-ul-Haq, Dr. Shah Zaman, and other members.
The team recently achieved a major milestone by successfully performing a laparoscopic nephrectomy and varicocelectomy on a patient suffering from severe hydronephrosis, involving more than two litres of fluid accumulation in the kidney. Despite the complexity of the procedure, the patient was discharged the very next day, highlighting the effectiveness of this advanced surgical approach.
Professor Dr. Fawad Nasrullah emphasised that the availability of laparoscopic surgery is a major benefit for patients across the province. He said the technique ensures quicker recovery and allows patients to return to normal life in a shorter time, while also providing underprivileged patients access to high-quality, internationally comparable treatment in the public sector.
The Department of Urology at Mayo Hospital is now fully operational with advanced laparoscopic facilities, modern equipment, and a skilled team of professionals. The initiative reflects a strong commitment to delivering incision-free, high-standard medical care to patients across Punjab.
