LAHORE: The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,291 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents, seven people lost their lives while 1,538 others sustained injuries.
According to Rescue officials, 691 seriously injured victims were shifted to various hospitals, whereas 847 people with minor injuries were provided first aid treatment at the scene by Rescue Medical Teams, helping reduce the burden on hospitals.
The report revealed that motorbikes were involved in the majority of accidents, accounting for 75 percent of the cases. Authorities stressed that effective enforcement of traffic laws and strict lane discipline are essential to curb the rising number of road crashes.
The analysis further showed that among the victims were 869 drivers, 67 underage drivers, 162 pedestrians, and 514 passengers.
Lahore recorded the highest number of road accidents with 264 RTCs affecting 335 people. Multan ranked second with 89 accidents and 103 victims, while Faisalabad reported 79 RTCs with 85 affected persons.
Detailed statistics showed that a total of 1,546 victims were involved in the accidents, including 1,231 males and 314 females. Among them, 346 victims were below 18 years of age, 787 were between 18 and 40 years, while 412 victims were above 40 years of age.
According to the data, the vehicles involved in the accidents included 1,359 motorcycles, 91 auto-rickshaws, 139 motorcars, 24 vans, 11 passenger buses, 48 trucks, and 63 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts.
