ISLAMABAD — Tensions between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the federal government over the upcoming national budget have deepened, as working-level negotiations failed to produce any breakthrough, sources revealed Wednesday.
According to sources, the two sides remain at odds over key provisions of the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025–26. Following the collapse of lower-level talks, the matter is now being referred to senior party and government leadership for resolution.
Sources indicate that a high-level meeting between top PPP leadership and senior government officials is expected within the next 24 to 48 hours, in a bid to bridge the widening gap before the budget is presented to parliament.
The PPP, a key coalition partner of the ruling government, has reportedly been pushing for specific allocations and policy measures that the government has so far resisted. Analysts warn that failure to resolve the impasse could strain the coalition and complicate the budget approval process.
