LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Law Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan distributed development and welfare grants among office-bearers of various District and Tehsil Bar Associations of Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Sahiwal divisions during a ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of the Civil Secretariat Lahore.
The event was attended by Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Members of the Punjab Assembly Sultan Haider Ali Khan, Saleem Ghazali Butt, Ashraf Rasool, and Malik Shehbaz. Secretary Law Punjab Asif Bilal Lodhi, Deputy Secretary Administration Aitazaz Aslam, Parliamentary Secretary for Law Khalid Mahmood Ranjha, representatives of Bar Councils and Bar Associations, and a large number of members of the legal fraternity also participated in the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said that, under the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the provincial government is taking practical steps to promote the welfare of lawyers and strengthen bar institutions across the province.
He announced that grants amounting to Rs67 million have been allocated for bar associations in Lahore Division. Beneficiaries include the District Bar Associations of Lahore, Kasur, and Nankana Sahib, as well as the Tehsil Bar Associations of Chunian, Kot Radha Kishan, Pattoki, Sheikhupura, Ferozewala, Sangla Hill, and Shahkot.
The Law Minister further stated that bar associations in Rawalpindi Division will receive grants totaling Rs49 million. These include the District Bar Associations of Murree, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum, along with the Tehsil Bar Associations of Gujar Khan, Kahuta, Kallar Syedan, Taxila, Kotli Sattian, Fateh Jang, Hassan Abdal, Jand, Pindigheb, Choa Saidan Shah, Sohawa, and Pind Dadan Khan.
Similarly, grants worth Rs51 million have been allocated for bar associations in Sahiwal Division. The funds will be distributed among the District Bar Associations of Sahiwal, Okara, and Pakpattan, as well as the Tehsil Bar Associations of Chichawatni, Depalpur, Renala Khurd, and Arifwala.
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s commitment to supporting the legal community and stated that the provision of financial assistance to bar associations would continue in the future. He added that further measures are being undertaken to improve lawyers’ professional capacity, upgrade bar rooms, and provide modern facilities to members of the legal profession.
The minister emphasized that lawyers are the backbone of the justice delivery system and play a crucial role in strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law. He noted that a strong and efficient judicial framework is essential for maintaining public confidence in the legal system.
He further remarked that the development of bar associations would contribute significantly to strengthening the justice sector and ensuring improved access to justice for citizens, which remains a key priority of the Punjab Government’s governance agenda.
