LAHORE, June 15: In accordance with the directives of the Government of Punjab, Lahore General Hospital (LGH) observed Dengue Prevention Day with a comprehensive awareness seminar and walk aimed at educating the public about preventive measures against dengue fever.
The awareness activities were led by Vice Principal PGMI Prof. Dr. Nudrat Sohail, Medical Superintendent LGH Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, and Prof. Dr. Khurram Saleem. A large number of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and medical students participated in the event, including Dr. Samina Taufeeq, Dr. Jafar Hussain Shah, Dr. Salman Shakeel, and Saima Fateh.
Speaking at the seminar, health experts emphasized the importance of early recognition of dengue symptoms, preventive practices, and the elimination of mosquito breeding sites. They stressed that public awareness and community participation remain essential in controlling the spread of the disease.
Prof. Dr. Nudrat Sohail and Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain stated that vigilance and preventive action are the most effective tools in the fight against dengue. They urged citizens to avoid stagnant water in homes, offices, and surrounding areas, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
Medical experts also highlighted the importance of personal hygiene, including regular handwashing before meals, as a key measure in preventing mosquito-borne and other infectious diseases.
During the awareness walk, participants carried placards and banners displaying dengue prevention messages and cleanliness guidelines. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to implementing government-recommended Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and supporting efforts to make the anti-dengue campaign successful across Punjab.
The event concluded with a renewed pledge by healthcare professionals and students to continue public awareness initiatives and contribute to the prevention and control of dengue in the community.
