ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance has approved a proposal to impose tax on income earned through social media platforms, paving the way for the measure to be incorporated into the country’s fiscal framework.
During its meeting, the committee reviewed proposed taxation measures targeting earnings generated through digital platforms and online content creation. Officials said the move is aimed at bringing the digital economy into the tax net and enhancing government revenue collection.
The committee also approved a proposal to abolish the one percent advance tax imposed on exporters, a step that is expected to provide relief to the export sector and support the country’s trade competitiveness.
Government representatives said the broader tax reforms are intended to modernize the taxation system, improve documentation of the economy, and create a more balanced revenue structure.
The measures form part of Pakistan’s wider fiscal reform agenda aimed at strengthening economic stability, broadening the tax base, and encouraging sustainable growth.
