Islamabad: Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a new tax compliance mechanism for small retailers, barring Inland Revenue officers from entering registered small shops for tax-related inspections.
According to media reports, the Revenue Division has issued an official notification under which small shopkeepers will be required to file a simplified tax return through the IRIS web portal or the mobile application. The return will include details of purchases, sales, expenses, and profits.
Under the new system, registered shopkeepers will receive a green identification plate to be displayed prominently outside their shops. Inland Revenue officers will not be permitted to enter shops displaying the green plate for tax-related matters.
The notification states that the green plate will feature a unique QR code, the shopkeeper’s name, National Tax Number (NTN), and the shop’s address, allowing authorities to verify registration and tax information digitally.
The initiative is aimed at simplifying tax compliance for small businesses, promoting digital documentation, enhancing transparency, and reducing unnecessary physical inspections by tax officials.
