LAHORE: Doctors at the Pediatrics Department of Lahore General Hospital (LGH) have achieved a significant medical milestone by saving the lives of eight critically ill newborns admitted over the past month in extremely serious condition. Hospital officials said the infants have made full recoveries and have been discharged to their families after receiving advanced medical treatment.
Medical Superintendent (MS) LGH, Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, said the newborns were admitted with severe oxygen deprivation affecting their lungs and brains, leaving them in critical condition. They were immediately shifted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where they received ventilator support, continuous monitoring and specialized treatment from a dedicated team of pediatric specialists using modern medical equipment.
Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain noted that neonatal intensive care and ventilator treatment in private hospitals is often prohibitively expensive for middle- and low-income families. He said Lahore General Hospital is providing free, high-quality healthcare services in line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Patient First” vision and the policies of the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department, ensuring equal access to advanced treatment for all patients, including newborns.
He praised the commitment, professionalism and tireless efforts of the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of the Pediatrics Department, saying their teamwork, timely diagnosis and use of modern medical technology were instrumental in saving the infants’ lives.
The hospital administration reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening pediatric healthcare facilities to ensure children receive the highest standard of treatment.
Parents of the recovered newborns expressed heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nursing staff and hospital administration for providing free and quality medical care. They also thanked the Punjab Government and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for supporting improved public healthcare services.
