LAHORE: The Punjab Emergency Services Department (Rescue 1122) responded to 1,349 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all 38 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. The accidents claimed 08 lives and left 1,578 people injured.
According to Rescue 1122, 713 critically injured victims were shifted to various hospitals for further treatment, while 865 people with minor injuries were provided first aid at the scene by Rescue Medical Teams, helping reduce the burden on hospitals.
The report revealed that 78 percent of the accidents involved motorcycles, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, better lane discipline, and increased public awareness regarding road safety.
Among the victims were 893 drivers, 77 underage drivers, 147 pedestrians, and 546 passengers.
Lahore recorded the highest number of road traffic crashes, with 244 accidents affecting 309 people. Multan ranked second with 97 crashes involving 103 victims, while Faisalabad was third with 82 accidents and 81 victims.
The data further showed that a total of 1,586 victims were affected, including 1,255 males and 331 females. Of these, 301 victims were under the age of 18, 867 were between 18 and 40 years, and 418 were above 40 years of age.
The vehicles involved in the crashes included 1,482 motorcycles, 100 auto-rickshaws, 147 cars, 21 vans, 08 passenger buses, 29 trucks, and 65 other vehicles and slow-moving carts.
Rescue 1122 urged motorists to strictly follow traffic regulations, wear helmets and seat belts, avoid underage driving, and practice safe driving habits to help reduce the growing number of road traffic accidents across the province.
