LAHORE: On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Secretary Housing Punjab Noor-ul-Amin Mengal visited Gujranwala to inspect the ongoing rainwater drainage operations and review the performance of the district administration during the monsoon spell.
During the visit, Deputy Commissioner Gujranwala Naveed Ahmed briefed the Secretary on the measures taken to manage urban flooding, while Managing Director WASA Gujranwala Ahad Dogar presented details regarding the deployment of pumping machinery, manpower, and dewatering operations.
Secretary Housing directed officials to ensure the immediate removal of rainwater from all low-lying and affected areas and instructed them to identify and eliminate any obstacles delaying drainage work. He also ordered that all pumping stations, disposal stations, and available machinery remain fully operational at maximum capacity.
He instructed field officers to maintain a continuous presence in affected areas and personally supervise dewatering activities. He further emphasized that public complaints should be addressed without delay and that all available resources be utilized to provide prompt relief to residents.
Noor-ul-Amin Mengal said the rainfall situation in Gujranwala is being monitored around the clock and that drainage operations will continue without interruption until complete clearance of rainwater is achieved. He appreciated the efforts of field staff and stressed that no delay in public relief efforts would be tolerated.
He added that, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab government remains fully mobilized to provide maximum relief to citizens during the monsoon season. All relevant departments, he said, are working in close coordination to ensure timely and effective drainage operations across the city.
