NEW DELHI: The 37-day-long Jantar Mantar protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against the alleged NEET paper leak has come to an end. The organization announced that following three rounds of talks with the central government, its remaining key demands have been accepted.
At a joint press conference in New Delhi, representatives of the government and the CJP announced agreement on a five-point charter, which will form the basis for further reform measures. BJP President J.P. Nadda, who led the government delegation, said the government would seriously consider the demands raised by the protesting youth and would implement the agreed points.
According to the CJP, the government has also agreed to two of its major demands: the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and the withdrawal of FIRs registered against protesters during the demonstration. The joint statement also noted an agreement to compensate individuals affected by the protest.
The organization clarified that although the sit-in is being called off, its struggle for transparency, accountability, and reform in the examination system will continue, and it will keep a close watch on the implementation of the government’s commitments.
The protest began last month over the alleged leak of the NEET exam paper and demands for reforms in the examination system. Large demonstrations were held at Jantar Mantar and several other locations, leaving many injured, prompting police action, and turning the issue into a major topic in national politics. Following multiple rounds of talks between the government and protest leadership, the deadlock was eventually broken and the end of the protest was announced.
