Islamabad — The Supreme Court has ordered that PTI founder Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa Hospital until the next hearing and instructed the constitution of a medical board to examine him. The court directed that the transfer be carried out under tight security and that public order outside the hospital must not be disturbed.
During proceedings, Justice Shahid Waheed questioned why Imran Khan’s full medical records had not been provided, saying the documents submitted appeared to be only summaries. The court ordered the complete medical record to be filed before the next hearing and noted that the record would not remain confidential once produced in court.
Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan raised concerns that the report recommends an angiography and asked whether such a procedure could be performed in jail. The Advocate General Islamabad replied it could be done at an outside hospital. The bench observed that Khan’s vital organs appear to have started showing signs of deterioration and that both pulse and cardiac findings were not normal, as per medical reports.
The court also scrutinized visitation issues. The Advocate General stated that 48 visits by Khan’s sisters had been permitted over the past three years, but the Supreme Court sought full details of all visits during that period and records regarding calls with his children. The court stressed that meetings with sisters are a basic right, not a favor, and must not be restricted unlawfully.
The bench ordered PTI and Imran Khan’s family to file an affidavit pledging no media statements would be made after visits; it warned that any breach of such assurances would invite action. The court barred some doctors from speaking during the hearing and questioned the qualifications of physicians involved in Khan’s examinations.
The Supreme Court summoned Adiala jail authorities to explain non-compliance with Islamabad High Court directions and requested three years’ visitation records. The hearing was adjourned until after the summer recess, with jail officials listed for the next appearance.
