GAZA: Despite the ceasefire, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have continued unabated. The latest strikes killed at least 10 Palestinians and wounded 15 others.
According to media reports, the Israeli military said the strikes targeted Hamas commanders and members who were allegedly planning operations against Israeli troops stationed in Gaza. Palestinian sources confirmed one person was killed in a strike on the Nuseirat camp, while Israel claimed the target was a Hamas company commander involved in the October 7, 2023 attack.
About half an hour later, an airstrike hit a police center in Gaza City’s Tuffah neighborhood, killing 9 people — including a 13-year-old girl — and wounding 15. An Israeli military spokesperson claimed at least four members of Hamas’s military wing and one member of the Popular Resistance Committees were present at the time.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem strongly condemned the Israeli strikes, calling them a blatant disregard for all ceasefire appeals, and blamed US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” for the recent escalation.
The strikes follow an earlier Israeli attack a day prior on a café near Gaza’s port, which killed 7 Palestinians and was also described by Israel’s military as targeting Hamas commanders. The Israeli military also released further details on an August 19 strike, saying it targeted four commanders linked to Hamas’s elite forces in a coastal area of Gaza City.
