Washington — The Trump administration has denied visas to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and other senior Palestinian officials to attend the UN General Assembly session. For the second consecutive year, Abbas will address the Assembly via video link instead of appearing in person in New York.
The US State Department said the Palestinian leadership failed to uphold past peace commitments and continued legal action against Israel at international courts (ICJ, ICC). The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the move, calling it contrary to efforts toward a two-state solution.
Last year, the General Assembly voted 145–5 to allow Abbas to address the session via video. Palestine holds non-member observer state status at the UN — it cannot vote but retains the right to participate and speak.
