London, A woman in England gave birth to her son in a KFC restaurant car park before reaching hospital, and the parents have nicknamed the newborn “Colonel Cody” after KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders.
According to news agency SWNS, Katie Murphy’s son was born on August 29 in the car park of a KFC in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Katie and her partner Stephen Kirby had gone to hospital in the morning with labour pains, but doctors sent them home at 4 pm, saying the birth was still some way off. When the pain continued, the couple set off again at 9 pm for the hospital, about 30 minutes from their home, but Katie realised on the way that the baby was coming.
Stephen called emergency services and pulled into the car park of their regular KFC. The baby could not wait for the ambulance and was born in the car at 9:35 pm, with Stephen moving to the front seat to help handle the newborn. An ambulance arrived about five minutes later and took mother and baby to hospital.
“It all happened so fast,” Katie said, adding that Cody is healthy and happy. The couple plan to celebrate his first birthday at KFC and hope to get him a weekly job there in future.
A KFC spokesperson said, “We’re honoured that our restaurant was the birthplace of Cody. We’re sending lots of love to the whole family, along with some KFC goodies and vouchers to help celebrate.”
