Egypt, Sudan and US Officials Discuss Ending Sudan’s War

CAIRO — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held trilateral talks on Sunday with his Sudanese counterpart Mohieddin Salem and Massad Boulos, senior US adviser on Arab and African affairs to President Donald Trump, discussing efforts to end the ongoing war in Sudan and restore security and stability. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry announced the meeting.
The three officials discussed ways to advance current de-escalation efforts and create conditions conducive to a lasting solution that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people while safeguarding the country’s national interests. Abdelatty stressed the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, natural resources and state institutions, and called for intensified regional and international efforts to end the conflict through negotiation and dialogue. He described the meeting with Salem and Boulos as constructive in a post on X.
The talks came as fighting intensified once again in Sudan. Sudan’s armed forces said early Sunday they repelled an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its allied Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North in two areas of Blue Nile state. War has raged in Sudan since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the army and the RSF. The UN estimates tens of thousands have been killed and nearly 13 million people displaced within Sudan and abroad.
