SWAT: A regional consultative workshop on the implementation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Policy 2026–2030 in Malakand Division was held in Saidu Sharif, with Commissioner Malakand Division Masood Ahmed attending as the chief guest.

The workshop was attended by Lead Consultant Falak Naz, Additional Deputy Commissioners from all districts of Malakand Division, officials from various government departments and other relevant experts.

The workshop focused on identifying regional and district-level priorities, practical measures, institutional responsibilities, coordination mechanisms and resource requirements for disaster risk reduction, preparedness and public safety.

The recommendations and proposals discussed during the session will be incorporated into the five-year implementation plan of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Policy.

Participants held detailed discussions on potential disaster risks facing their respective districts, existing preparedness arrangements, institutional challenges and priority needs. They also presented proposals aimed at improving preparedness before disasters, ensuring timely response and minimizing losses.

Commissioner Malakand Division Masood Ahmed stressed the need for practical measures to strengthen disaster risk management, improve coordination among government institutions and enhance the capacity of district administrations to respond effectively to emergencies.

He said advance planning, an integrated strategy and the effective participation of all relevant institutions were essential to reducing the risks posed by natural disasters.

The workshop further emphasized the importance of incorporating district-specific disaster risk reduction measures into the policy’s implementation plan, taking into account the geographical, environmental and climatic conditions of different districts across Malakand Division.
