Sanaa, Yemen — Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Wednesday targeting multiple Houthi positions in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, amid escalating cross-border hostilities.
Houthi-affiliated media confirmed the attacks, reporting loud explosions across the city and attributing them to Israeli warplanes. According to regional outlets Al Arabiya and Al Hadath, six Houthi sites were struck, including a major defense complex in the central Al-Ardhi district.
The Israeli military said the strikes came a day after it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen. Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree claimed responsibility for the launch, saying the group had fired a “hypersonic fragmentation ballistic missile” at “sensitive targets” near Jerusalem, while three drones were used to target Ramon Airport in Eilat and two other strategic sites.
Last week, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz had warned that the Houthis would face severe retaliation for intensifying missile and drone attacks.
Tensions have escalated sharply since August 28, when an Israeli strike in Sanaa killed Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahwi, head of the Houthis’ unrecognized government, along with 11 senior officials.
