DEPALPUR: Former Member of the National Assembly and Parliamentary Secretary Haji Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan has stressed the need to provide persons with disabilities equal opportunities, accessible facilities and the right to live with dignity, enabling them to participate fully in society.
Speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, he said ensuring a dignified life and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities was a shared responsibility of the government and society.
He said persons with disabilities were an integral part of society and their potential could only be fully realised by providing adequate facilities in education, employment, healthcare and transportation.
He emphasised the need to make educational institutions, government buildings, roads, footpaths and public transport accessible to persons with disabilities so they could move independently and participate in everyday activities without unnecessary barriers.
Haji Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan said practical measures, effective legislation and responsible performance by relevant institutions were essential to address the challenges faced by persons with disabilities.
He urged the government to prioritise the implementation of projects aimed at providing necessary facilities to ensure that persons with disabilities could contribute to national development as independent, active and dignified citizens.
He further said a civilised and developed society was one that protected the rights of persons with disabilities rather than neglecting them and provided equal opportunities for their advancement.
He stressed that collective efforts were needed to remove barriers, promote inclusion and ensure that persons with disabilities could exercise their rights and participate in all aspects of social and economic life.
