Rawalpindi: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that an incompetent and indifferent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was among the facilitators of terrorism in the province. He added that the facilitator obstructing counterterrorism efforts in KP is no longer there.
Speaking to Reuters, the military spokesperson said Pakistan has a clear strategy to counter terrorism, a key element of which is eliminating terrorists and all their facilitators within the country. He acknowledged that some terrorism-related issues also need to be addressed internally.
Lt Gen Chaudhry said no one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa opposes counterterrorism operations; rather, opposition comes only from those who have links with terrorists. He said that instead of a large-scale military operation, intelligence-based operations are under way in the province, with security forces conducting nearly 200 such operations daily alongside police and other law-enforcement agencies.
On the removal of the provincial government, he described it as a political matter best explained by politicians, but said the information available indicated that the change had taken place in accordance with constitutional and legal procedures.
