Doha. Pakistan has proposed the establishment of an Arab-Islamic Task Force to curb Israel’s expansionist agenda following Tel Aviv’s recent military strikes on Qatar. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar made the proposal during an emergency meeting in Doha, stressing the need for a coordinated Arab-Islamic mechanism to monitor and resist Israel’s aggressive designs.
Dar strongly condemned the Israeli assault, calling it “an unlawful and provocative attack that violates Qatar’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, including the UN Charter.” He emphasized that Israel had become a “permanent threat to global peace and security” and reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with the people and government of Qatar.
The Deputy Prime Minister also met with his Iranian counterpart, where both sides denounced Israeli aggression. He noted that Israel’s attack on Qatar was particularly alarming as Doha had been actively engaged in mediation efforts with the U.S. and Egypt to achieve a ceasefire in Palestine. “Targeting Qatar is essentially an attack on diplomacy and mediation itself,” Dar added.
Pakistan, alongside Algeria and Somalia, has called for an urgent UN Security Council meeting to hold Israel accountable. Islamabad has also demanded an immediate debate at the UN Human Rights Council under the OIC platform.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to depart for Doha today to attend the emergency Arab-Islamic Summit. Dar stated that Pakistan backs the OIC’s recommendation for Israel’s suspension from the United Nations and urged consideration of additional punitive measures to deter its illegal actions.
He further pressed for the UN Security Council to act under Chapter VII to demand an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, ensure unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza, and guarantee the safety of medical staff and UN personnel.
Referring to the UN General Assembly’s recent approval of a two-state solution resolution, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance: “The Palestinian people have the right to self-determination, and Pakistan stands with them. A meaningful, time-bound political process must be resumed to achieve lasting peace in the region.”
