Saudi Arabia’s Royal Court has announced the appointment of Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Humaid as the new Grand Mufti and head of the Council of Senior Scholars.
The decision comes following the death of former Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al al-Sheikh on September 23, 2025.
According to social media outlet Inside the Haramain, which regularly reports on developments related to the Two Holy Mosques, Sheikh Dr. bin Humaid will now serve as the country’s highest religious authority.
Born in 1949 in Al-Bukairiyah, Sheikh Dr. bin Humaid has served as Imam of the Kaaba since 1984. He has also delivered the Hajj sermon at Masjid Namira in Arafat, making him one of the most prominent clerics in the kingdom.
