KUALA LUMPUR, (International Desk)
US President Donald Trump has reiterated his commitment to promoting global peace, saying that his administration seeks “trade, not wars.”
Speaking at a peace accord signing ceremony between Thailand and Cambodia during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Trump said, “I have stopped eight wars so far, and I want to see peace prevail across the world.”
In a rare acknowledgment, President Trump once again praised Pakistan’s leadership, calling both its Field Marshal and Prime Minister “remarkable individuals.” He commended their swift diplomatic handling of tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, saying their efforts prevented a broader regional conflict.
The historic peace accord between Thailand and Cambodia was signed on Sunday in the presence of President Trump, marking the formal end of a five-day border conflict between the two neighboring nations. Trump had intervened in July to mediate between the countries, leading to a ceasefire that paved the way for this comprehensive agreement.
The accord was finalized shortly after Trump’s arrival in Kuala Lumpur for the ASEAN leaders’ summit, where he emphasized regional cooperation, free trade, and conflict resolution as key global priorities.
Observers say the US President’s remarks signal Washington’s renewed diplomatic engagement in Asia, as the region continues to face security and economic challenges.
