Islamabad, November 2, 2025: Sugar prices across Pakistan have soared to record levels, reaching up to PKR 210 per kilogram, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The PBS report shows that Sargodha recorded the steepest increase, with prices rising by PKR 23 per kilogram in a single week. In Karachi and Hyderabad, prices climbed by up to PKR 5 per kilogram, while in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, sugar is selling for as high as PKR 200 per kilogram.
In Hyderabad, the price rose from PKR 190 to PKR 195 per kilogram over the past week.
Despite these sharp regional increases, PBS data indicates a slight nationwide decline in the average retail price — down by 0.12 rupees to PKR 188.69 per kilogram.
Last week, the national average stood at PKR 188.81, while a year ago, the average price was PKR 132.47 per kilogram, reflecting a 42% year-on-year increase.
Economists attribute the surge to supply shortages, rising production costs, and disruptions in sugarcane procurement amid ongoing economic challenges.
