Brasília — Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Wednesday that his country’s response to U.S. tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump is aimed at “creating new things” out of the economic crisis triggered by the trade measures.
Lula described the tariffs as a challenge for Brazil’s economy but stressed that the situation could also open opportunities for innovation and diversification in trade.
Despite criticizing the U.S. move, the Brazilian leader said his government remains willing to engage in dialogue. “We are ready to negotiate,” Lula stated, noting that constructive talks could still lead to a resolution that benefits both nations.
Trump’s tariffs have drawn criticism from several countries, with concerns that the measures could spark broader trade tensions across the Americas
