Islamabad (April 19, 2026): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a detailed telephone conversation with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, this evening.
The warm and cordial call lasted approximately 45 minutes, during which both leaders discussed the current regional situation in depth.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Pezeshkian and the Iranian leadership for sending a high-powered delegation, led by Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, to Islamabad on 11-12 April 2026 for important talks.
The Prime Minister briefed President Pezeshkian about his recent engagements with several world leaders, including the leadership of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye. He said these interactions had been extremely useful in building a broad consensus in support of a sustained process of dialogue and diplomacy aimed at achieving lasting peace in the war-affected region.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also expressed gratitude to the Iranian leadership for their constructive conversations with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir during the latter’s visit to Tehran this week.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, the Prime Minister stated that, with the support of friends and partners, Pakistan remains fully committed to its sincere efforts for the advancement of regional peace and security. He also conveyed his respectful regards to the Supreme Leader of Iran, His Eminence Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for Pakistan’s strong commitment to the success of ongoing peace efforts. He affirmed that bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan would continue to grow stronger in the coming days.
