LAHORE: As many as 250 deserving students of University of the Punjab (PU) will be awarded scholarships under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Needs-Based Scholarship Programme for the academic year 2025–26.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali made these remarks while addressing a ceremony held in connection with the scholarship programme. He emphasized that merit will remain the cornerstone of the selection process, ensuring transparency, fairness, and recognition of academic performance so that only the most deserving candidates benefit from the scheme.
The ceremony was attended by Director Planning & Development Prof Dr Hafiz Muhammad Anwar Asghar, faculty members, and students.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali stated that the initiative is aimed at supporting financially disadvantaged yet talented students, enabling them to pursue higher education without economic barriers. He added that the programme reflects the university’s commitment to promoting equal educational opportunities and academic excellence.
He further highlighted that such initiatives play a vital role in empowering students, allowing them to focus on their studies and contribute positively to society. The university administration, he said, remains committed to expanding access to quality education through collaboration with national institutions.
The Higher Education Commission Needs-Based Scholarship Programme is part of broader efforts to strengthen the higher education sector by providing financial support to students from underprivileged backgrounds.
