LAHORE: The Punjab University Library Book Club organized a special program to commemorate World Book and Copyright Day, highlighting the importance of reading culture and intellectual engagement.
The event featured the presentation of the “Annual Book Lover Award 2026” to the library’s most dedicated users. Chief Librarian Muhammad Asif Khan, Director Students Affairs Dr Shahzeb Khan, renowned educationist Dr Rashid Mehmood, along with faculty members, students, and members of the wider community, attended the ceremony.
In his address, Muhammad Asif Khan thanked the distinguished guests, participants, students, and faculty for contributing to the success of the event. He reaffirmed the library’s commitment to promoting research, reading, and intellectual growth through such initiatives, adding that the program highlighted the crucial role of books and reading habits in academic and social development.
Dr Shahzeb Khan emphasized the importance of reading in personal development and nation-building. He appreciated the efforts of the PU Library and its Book Club in fostering a vibrant reading culture on campus and encouraged students to develop a lifelong connection with books and libraries to enhance knowledge and critical thinking.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rashid Mehmood underlined the transformative power of books in intellectual development, character building, and social awareness. He stressed the need to further strengthen reading culture as a foundation for a progressive society.
The event concluded with the distribution of “Book Lover Awards” to ten highly engaged library users in recognition of their consistent use of library resources and active role in promoting reading culture. The awards were presented as a token of appreciation for their dedication to academic excellence and literary engagement.
