At least 14 people were killed and 1,596 others injured in 1,354 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab during the past 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department Punjab.
The accidents occurred in all 37 districts of the province, with rescue teams responding promptly to each incident. Of the injured, 733 people sustained serious injuries and were shifted to various hospitals, while 863 victims with minor injuries were treated on-site by rescue medical teams, helping reduce the burden on healthcare facilities.
Data analysis shows that motorbikes were involved in the majority of cases, accounting for nearly 80 percent of all accidents. Authorities stressed the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved lane discipline to curb the rising number of crashes.
The report further revealed that victims included 968 drivers, 63 underage drivers, 134 pedestrians, and 508 passengers, highlighting widespread road safety concerns.
Among major cities, Lahore reported the highest number of incidents, with 213 crashes affecting 259 people. It was followed by Faisalabad with 90 accidents and 123 victims, and Multan with 75 crashes resulting in 68 affected individuals.
Overall, 1,610 people were impacted by these road accidents, including 1,296 men and 314 women. Age-wise, 310 victims were under 18 years old, 811 were between 18 and 40, and 489 were above 40 years of age.
The breakdown of vehicles involved shows 1,474 motorbikes, 90 auto-rickshaws, 123 cars, 26 vans, 14 passenger buses, 43 trucks, and 62 other types of vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
