An Iranian supertanker carrying approximately 1.9 million barrels of crude oil, valued at nearly $220 million, has successfully reached a Far Eastern port after evading US maritime surveillance and sanctions enforcement, according to media reports.
Sources indicate the vessel disabled its Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponder and took an alternative route to avoid detection by US naval assets. The incident is being described as an apparent violation of Washington’s sweeping sanctions on Iranian oil exports.
Analysts note that Iran has increasingly relied on a so-called “shadow fleet” of tankers to sustain oil revenues despite international pressure. This latest incident underscores the growing limitations of unilateral sanctions enforcement on the high seas.
