Laboratory professionals are playing a pivotal role in saving lives through accurate and timely diagnosis in the modern healthcare system, said Principal Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, Prof. Farooq Afzal.
He was addressing a ceremony organized by the Department of Pathology, PGMI/Lahore General Hospital, to mark Lab Week 2026. The event was attended by Medical Superintendent LGH Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, Prof. of Pathology Dr. Nazish Saqlain, Prof. Dr. Farhan Rasheed, Dr. Abdul Aziz, and a large number of faculty members and healthcare professionals.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Farooq Afzal emphasized that in modern medicine, a physician’s clinical decision remains incomplete without laboratory results. He noted that the professional expertise, integrity, and dedication of pathologists and laboratory staff directly determine the course of a patient’s treatment.
The Principal announced that comprehensive steps would be taken to upgrade the Pathology Department to international standards, including the provision of state-of-the-art equipment, continuous professional training for lab staff, and enhanced quality of diagnostic services to ensure patients receive prompt and reliable care.
Speaking on the occasion, MS Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain described the laboratory department as the backbone of the hospital’s performance, adding that such events not only boost staff morale but also highlight professional capabilities and foster a spirit of teamwork.
During the briefing, the Head of the Pathology Department revealed that a remarkable 2,380,647 laboratory tests were conducted throughout 2025 — of which 714,194 tests were performed in the Emergency Lab alone, providing critical diagnostic support for timely patient treatment.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of honorary badges to outstanding laboratory staff, followed by a cake-cutting celebration. Principal Prof. Farooq Afzal expressed his satisfaction and commended the exceptional contributions of Prof. Dr. Nazish Saqlain and Prof. Dr. Farhan Rasheed.
