New Delhi condemns attack, calls targeting of commercial ships “unacceptable”
Gulf of Oman — An Indian-flagged commercial vessel has sunk off the coast of Oman following what authorities describe as a suspected drone attack. The ship sustained critical damage in the strike and went down in the Arabian Sea, sparking an immediate rescue operation.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the incident, strongly condemning the attack. “Targeting Indian-flagged vessels is completely unacceptable,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that all parties must refrain from endangering commercial shipping lanes which are vital to global trade.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet. Naval and coast guard units from the region have been deployed for search and rescue operations. The incident comes amid heightened maritime tensions in the Arabian Sea and Gulf region.
Indian officials have urged the international community to ensure the safety of commercial vessels navigating these critical waterways.
