LAHORE, June 1: A state-of-the-art echocardiography machine donated by philanthropists has been installed in the Pulmonology Department of Lahore General Hospital (LGH), significantly enhancing the hospital’s capacity for timely and accurate diagnosis of heart and respiratory diseases in both adults and children.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Principal of Amiruddin Medical College and Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, said that continuous efforts are being made to upgrade healthcare facilities at LGH in line with the healthcare vision of Punjab Chief Minister .
He said the installation of the new echocardiography machine would not only ensure prompt diagnostic services for patients but would also improve training standards for postgraduate trainees and young doctors. He described philanthropists as a valuable asset to Pakistan, noting that their contributions would benefit thousands of patients.
Medical Superintendent LGH, Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, said the hospital administration is taking transformative steps to make LGH more patient-friendly. He added that the machine would benefit both pediatric and adult patients by providing modern diagnostic facilities under one roof.
Head of the Pulmonology Department, Prof. Dr. Javed Magsi, emphasized the importance of echocardiography as a vital diagnostic tool for heart and lung diseases. He said the availability of the advanced equipment would help ensure quicker diagnosis, timely treatment, and improved patient outcomes.
During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal directed the hospital administration to treat the donated machine as a public trust. He instructed officials to ensure complete transparency in its utilization, maintenance, repairs, and record-keeping, and ordered that the equipment be immediately entered into the hospital’s official stock register.
He further directed that extensive training opportunities be provided to young doctors and postgraduate trainees to maximize the benefits of the new technology and ensure that patients face no difficulties during the diagnostic process.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Houria Rehman, Dr. Naeem Akhtar, Dr. Rabia Abbas, Dr. Faisal, Dr. Abdul Aziz, Dr. Sundas, Dr. Sanam, nursing officers, young doctors, medical students, and Qasim Mayo.
