SAHIWAL: Commissioner Sahiwal Division Dr. Asif Tufail has underscored the importance of sports in promoting a healthy society, saying that athletic activities strengthen both physical and mental well-being while fostering sportsmanship and resilience.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the All Pakistan National Ranking Tennis Championship 2026 at Sahiwal Club. The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Samiullah Farooq, Club Secretary Sheikh Azmat Saleem, along with players, coaches, parents and sports enthusiasts from across the country.
Welcoming participants and guests, Dr. Tufail described the hosting of a national-ranking tennis event at Sahiwal Club after a 27-year hiatus as a major milestone for the city’s sporting community. He expressed confidence that spectators would enjoy high-quality and competitive matches throughout the tournament.
More than 150 established and emerging tennis players from different regions of Pakistan are participating in the championship, which is expected to provide a valuable competitive platform for athletes and contribute to the development of tennis in the country.
Organizers said the event aims to identify and promote new talent while encouraging greater participation in the sport at both regional and national levels. The championship is also expected to enhance Sahiwal’s profile as a venue capable of hosting major sporting events.
